what you’ve missed…

If you’re a WordPress user and following this blog via your reader, you probably aren’t getting pumps & iron updates when new posts are published. Because I’ve moved to a self-hosted WordPress site, my blog doesn’t show up in your Reader. And this is sad because you’ve missed a lot!

What follows is a summary of what’s been on the blog since I last showed up in your Reader, but I suggest you subscribe via e-mail, follow pumps & iron on Twitter or Bloglovin’, or like the blog on Facebook so you don’t miss any workouts, diy projects, delicious recipes or outfits.

i’ve moved! and i think you should probably come with me…

Hello, my wonderful WordPress followers! If you’re wondering why it’s been so long since pumps & iron has shown up in your reader, it’s because I’ve moved to a self-hosted WordPress site. And being the amateur web designer that I am, it’s taken me a few days to realize that the nifty follow feature in the WordPress.com community doesn’t work when you venture out into the big ol’ world of self-hosted blogging.

It’s been less than a week, but I’m already having withdrawals. I miss all my regular readers! Luckily, the solution is pretty easy. Head on over to pumps&iron and subscribe via e-mail so you don’t miss a workout, diy project, delicious recipe or outfit.

If you don’t like the idea of giving out your e-mail address (hey, I don’t blame you—after all, I am pretty creepy what with my thick mustache, windowless van and pockets full of free candy), you can follow me on Twitter, like the blog on Facebook, or follow it on Bloglovin’ to stay in the loop.

So just what have you been missing out on this past week? A kickass Olympic Workout, some outrageous (but fabulous) platform wedges, and the story behind my first half marathon (spoiler alert: it involves beer…lots and lots of beer).

I can’t wait to see you over at the new and improved site! It still looks much the same, but is full of so much exciting potential. Lots of fun changes and improvements to come as pumps & iron grows!

blueberry lime smoothie with flax seeds

The amount of excitement I feel every time I look at my new blender makes me feel really, really old. Using extra spending money on a kitchen appliance? Next thing you know, I’ll be asking for a vacuum cleaner for Christmas. (I do actually need a vacuum cleaner though…damnit.)

So you all can share in some of my new-blender joy, I wanted to post a delicious smoothie I made the other day. Now I’m a firm believer that you don’t need a recipe to make a fruit smoothie—literally 99.9% of combinations will taste good. Toss fruit in there, add some yogurt or a banana for texture, mix in some fruit juice if desired, and you’ve got yourself a winner. But if you need some inspiration, this blueberry lime smoothie is uh-mazing. And the flax seeds add a hint of nuttiness and texture I love (not to mention a bazillion health bonuses).

Here’s what you’ll be blending:

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 individual container of blueberry Greek yogurt (about ¾ cup)
  • Juice from 1 lime
  • 1 tbsp flax seeds

So simple, but it makes for the perfect summertime breakfast or snack.
