colombia {day 4} parque tayrona & snorkeling at playa de amor

It would have been utterly impossible to wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Because I was in a hammock. And, more importantly, because I woke up at a beautiful beach to the sound of the ocean and birds chirping. Life is good.

And it got even better when a little puppy wandered up to our hammocks. I fed him tuna fish and plotted to smuggle the little emaciated angel back to the States with me, but if TSA confiscated a jar of peanut butter, I doubt they’d let a dog slide.

I went for a walk along the beach we camped at and found a jackpot of sea glass. I’ve been brainstorming ways to incorporate it into a jewelry diy project, so stayed tuned.

There are tons of little coves and beaches in Tayrona National Park.

We took a boat over to Playa de Amor where we went snorkeling. My craptastic underwater camera failed to capture just how cool the coral reefs, schools of fish and other sea creatures were, so you’re just going to have to trust me.

Snorkeling came to an end for me when I saw a barracuda and started having PTSD flashbacks to the bloodbath the day before. We had a skilled spear fisher in the group, however, who brought in a fresh kill, which we ate with lime sashimi-style on the beach. Doesn’t get any fresher than that!

I was sad to leave Parque Tayrona at the end of the day, but the lack of showering and salt water had turned my hair into an odd rope-like substance, and that mini bottle of shampoo waiting for me back in Santa Marta was looking damn sexy. Also looking damn sexy was me, casually lounging on top of our jeep.
